Kristin Humbard Young
Biography and Achievements
Kristin Humbard Young is a business owner and a piano teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Pittsburg State University and a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Georgia. Her academic recognition includes a membership in Pi Kappa Lambda, an American honor society for musicians; and a membership in Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest and largest collegiate honor society for all disciplines.
Kristin started teaching piano lessons during undergraduate years in Kansas and she quickly grew her studio to nearly 20 students. This made her realize that teaching was her passion. After moving to Georgia to pursue a teaching degree, she taught group class piano and accompanied the UGA glee clubs. She also taught for the UGA Community Music School. After graduation from UGA in 2010, she founded Humbard Piano Studio in Athens, GA. In July of 2018, she changed the studio name to Oconee Music, LLC and added new services to better reach her current local community in Watkinsville, GA. Oconee Music thrived throughout the Covid pandemic with virtual lessons and currently reaches over 150 students weekly.
Her musical experiences include the performance of a solo piano concerto with the Andrews University Orchestra, and extensive solo and collaborative recital performances. She has won prizes in numerous local talent shows. Currently she is the founder and co-owner of Oconee Music, LLC located in Watkinsville, GA. .She is a church musician and served as the church pianist at Oconee Presbyterian Church for almost 8 years, stepping down in June 2021 to move to Sneads Ferry, NC. She has served as Director of Music at Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church since Sept 2021.
Kristin is a step mom to two teenage boys, Andrew and Christian and mom to two younger children, Jackson and Eleanor. Her hobbies include cooking, reading books, playing piano, strength-training, walking on the beach, and hiking.
